Opinion: Singles Inferno season 3 plot twist is a step too far and pool scenes need a trigger w
Single’s Inferno is back this December and, as huge fans of the series, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t super-excited. But, as the Netflix show’s third season drops, it’s been met with drastic disappointment. Don’t get us wrong, we’re here for the emotional rollercoasters that dating shows bring, but the format of season 3 just takes it too far.
As the opening credits for Singles Inferno season 3 roll, contestants can be overhead asking: “How does it feel to be cheated on?” and “Am I cheating on her?” Lots of Netflix viewers are taking to social media to say they love the new “spicy” spin on this year’s format, but is it “spicy” or is it really just toxic?

Single’s Inferno had a unique appeal
When Single’s Inferno first came out in 2021, the show had a unique appeal because of its concept.
The Netflix show contestants seemed to be looking for genuine relationships. They had to really spend time together and form connections before they could go and get to know one another in Paradise.
The show’s format came with a lot of formalities, including how the contestants’ jobs and ages were off limits in topics of discussion until they went to Paradise and had one-on-one conversations.
Now, season 3 is here and it’s giving ‘Love Island meets Survivor’ vibes.
Season 3 changes get a ‘no from me dawg’
Cue American Idol‘s Randy Jackson’s classic line “It’s a no from me, dawg,” because the Single’s Inferno changes are just a step too far.
Bring in another Inferno island, fine. Split the cast into two, fine. But, season 3 kicks off its first batch of episodes and it seems like the cast is trying to find romance in total chaos.
After being introduced to six cast members, they immediately have the opportunity to go to Paradise and they’ve literally spent about 20 minutes around each other.
Because of the new format, the focus seems to have shifted much more onto first impressions and visual attraction, over forming organic friendships and relationships while spending time on Inferno.
There are still lots of sweet moments captured between the contestants as they navigate finding food on the island and preparing a meal, but season 3 definitely seems to have shifted into a looks-focused dating show.
In episode 1, there’s so much mention of people’s bodies and “masculinity.” Working out every day of the week is great (if you enjoy it) but phrases like “manly men,” are being used and the woman are openly looking for partners who are “well built” with “great bodies.” Could this be a bit stereotypical or outdated in 2023?
Pool scene overload
Overall, in the first three season 3 episodes, there just seems to be so much going on.
Tonnes of viewers are taking to X (Twitter) and Reddit threads, to say how much their loving the sudden twists and turns and drama of season 3.
More commented to say the “multiverse concept is clever,” but it kind of just detracts away from what the participants are really there for, doesn’t it?
It’s safe to say Netflix wanted to turn up the heat in the 2023 series. This makes perfect sense for a dating show, but the development between any cast members just can’t be genuine if they’re moving that quickly.
One minute the singletons arrive on Inferno, and the next they’re de-robing and getting touchy-feely in a pool together.
The dates seem to be a bit lackluster (probably because the participants had to pick one another at record speed) so it’s as if production plonked in a load of extra pool scenes to steam things up.
There’s only so much frolicking around in a pool that can be done before the trickling water noises get a bit much. Let’s just say the season should come with a misophonia trigger warning with the seemingly endless pool scenes this year – oh, and don’t forget the hot tub scenes, too.
