During American Hustle, where Bale played chubby conman Irving Rosenfeld, he gained a noticeable amount of weight and showed off his beer belly in one scene. His costar Jennifer Lawrence was disappointed by Bale’s new physique, according to director David O. Russell. “'I finally get to make out with Christian Bale and he's a really fat guy,'" Russell recalled Lawrence saying while filming the crime drama. She said: "'He's Fatman, not Batman.'" 

Backseat is expected to hit theaters in late 2018.
